The word “budget” often brings up the same connotations as the word “diet”: restriction, deprivation, punishment— basically, a total JOYKILL. On the flipside of the coin, I realized recently that I actually also had a negative connotation with the word “profit” (greedy, using people, capitalist pig, etc.)—talk about damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

But it doesn’t have to be that way, right?

I’ve done a lot of work around my relationship with money, both personally and professionally— and in this episode, I’m talking with my new friend Zandra Bonick, a virtual CFO and Profit Strategist. I appreciated Zandra’s vulnerability in sharing about how— even as someone who had been in charge of the finances for top hotels like the Ritz Carlton— she found herself falling into patterns of significant overspending when it came to getting her own business off the ground.

Zandra had to do her own deep work to close those “money leaks” and get back in integrity with the financial practices and strategies she’s spent so long helping other businesses excel in. And that especially wasn’t easy while dealing with some serious postpartum and health challenges that she shares about in this conversation.

Oh, and did I mention she happens to be from a small town in Sweden where it was unheard of to have a dream like running your own business from halfway across the world? I love hearing stories about folks who followed their dreams even when most of the cards they were dealt were stacked against them.
